Omar al-Faruq (aka Farouk) was the senior Al Qaeda commander who escaped from Bagram jail in 2005 when in US custody (
The Age). Subsequently he made his way to Iraq where, yesterday, he engaged in a dialogue with the British army. As a result of those negotiations, al-Faruq has been persuaded to retire from terrorism in order to spend more time with 72 virgins
(Sunday Times).
